Teen Service and Leadership
Youth want to shape the world, especially teens! Teen service and leadership are vital to building healthy communities and a better world. To develop this important resource, Camp Fire guides teens through community service and leadership experiences.
Camp Fire’s Teen Service and Leadership programs provide a variety of opportunities to help teens develop as effective and engaged citizens now.
Leaders-in-Training Program
Youth who are going into 9th or 10th grade are eligible to join our youth-led and youth-driven LIT program. The purpose of this four-week program is to teach leadership skills that will benefit the LIT in his/her home, school, and community. The experience is designed to provide each LIT with training in the core program areas while having fun with other teens. We will help participants start the transition from camper to staff and ultimately from teenager to young adult, by supporting them and helping them take action on what it is that they are passionate about. When teens can see the results of their work, they thrive.
Counselor-in-Training Program
Camp Fire Camp Toccoa’s Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program prepares teens to lead youth in the outdoors. What could be better than sharing and enjoying one’s respect and love of the environment while learning leadership skills that will be useful throughout their life and career? Our CIT program offers just this opportunity for rising 11th through 12th grade teens. Our 4 week CIT program progresses from our other leadership programs (such as LIT, Voyager, and Wrangler) but provides training and mentoring for lifelong professional skills in working with younger youth. The CIT program is perfect for anyone who has a love for the outdoors and is interested in a career in youth development.
Summer Internship
We’re excited to announce this exciting new opportunity for rising 12th grade youth. This 4 week long, in-depth leadership program gives teens the hands on experience needed to work in all facets of camp while developing life skills that will help them in work and academic environments outside of camp. Applicants can apply for either Sessions 1-4 or Sessions 5-8; all interns will be required to attend a pre-camp orientation. An application and interview are required. Completion of the CIT program prior to applying for the internship is not required but recommended.
